ARTHUR-AYERS.
‘‘A pretty marriage" was the comment of the spectators of the morning marriage of Mr. John A. Arthur, the bright and popular editor of the Gazette-Messenger. In an early morning marriage Mr. John A. Arthur was married to Miss Verona Ayers, one of the charming society belles of Washington. Miss Ayers is the daughter of Mr. E. W. Ayers, one of the hailing merchants of this city.
Mr. Arthur is the editor of the Gazette-Messenger, one of the leading eastern papers. The Methodist church was handsomely decorated with palms and ferns banked high around the organ and pulpit. Men delsohns Wedding March was skillfully rendered under the artistic touch of Mrs. E. M. Brown. Mr. Barnes, the violinist, assisted in the rendition. The bride was given away by her brother. Mrs. James W. Wiggins was the dame of honor with Mr. Fred Avers. Miss Laura Ayers, the bride’s sister and maid of honor, with Dr. John C. Rodman, best man, Mr;. T. Atkinson Haughton with Aliss Mary Burbank. The ushers were Dr. Joshua Tayloe, Dr. P.A. Nicholson, Mr. F. H. Short and Mr. J. A. Temple. The news & observer.
